In 2018 I became a product manager at DeepCrawl.
This experience changed how I view getting things done and made me realise I severely lacked core skills when working with development teams.
If you were to visualise skills you learn throughout your career as a stack, with each role adding more experience and skills, then working in a product team allowed me to gain skills to get SEO projects executed.
In the SEO industry, we focus a lot on technical, content and link-building tactics. However, we don’t really talk about the skills that are needed to work with product and development teams.
When working in-house in a product and engineering team, I had to learn various skills critical to getting things done and being technically proficient.
Speaking to other SEOs who have worked in product and engineering teams, I know I’m not alone.
That is what this podcast is all about:
Interviewing SEOs who’ve worked in product and engineering teams to uncover actionable and practical advice to help SEOs add to their skill stack.
This podcast isn’t about SEO tactics or strategies. Instead, I want to understand the lessons that other SEOs have learned from working in product and development teams.
The first two podcasts are scheduled in June:
June 14th - Tory Gray and Heather Kaeowichien (Gray Dot Company)
June 28th - Pedro Dias (Google, Reach PLC and eBay)
I have other guests, including Areej AbuAli, Malte Landwehr and Holly Millar Anderson and a few other SEO PMs.
For now, this podcast is an experiment. So it is just a limited series for now. Let me know if you find it useful in the comments or via the feedback form.
